Unilever HireVue interview: Questions and strategy
Ace the Unilever HireVue interview and kickstart your career!
Unilever has been using HireVue as part of its recruitment process for a few years now and most of its global operations now use it.
Last year, for the Early Careers program alone, Unilever used HireVue to process 250,000 applications across 53 countries - all to hire only 800 applicants. That's a 0.32% pass rate!
To help you get through the first knockout stage of Unilever's early careers process, practice answering questions on Voomer, a platform designed to help you ace the HireVue. You'll be able to practice on current and past questions and get AI-powered feedback on your answers.
Unilever hiring process & HireVue
Unilever's HireVue is mostly the same across the globe. You need to answer 3 questions which will be shown to you one at a time via a pre-recorded video from someone at Unilever.
You'll get roughly 30 seconds to prepare an answer and then roughly 2 minutes to answer.
You may choose to skip the prep timers or stop recording at any time, so you don't have to use all the time available.
We recommend you use all of the prep time but stop recording your answer as soon as you've said what you had to say. Needlessly extending an answer does not favor you, in fact, it increases the chances you can derail an answer that started off very strongly.
Unilever HireVue interview specifics
You also want to be aware of Unilever's shared values. You can find them on Unilever's Business integrity page and in Our Code (Code of Business Principles).
Unilever publishes four shared values, Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, and Pioneering, that anchor Our Code. The company describes them as non-negotiables:
"At Unilever, we believe in growing responsibly and sustainably. To do this, every employee must behave in ways that embody both our values – Integrity, Respect, Responsibility and Pioneering – and our behaviours. Our Code defines these non-negotiables, making clear what is expected from our people."1
"Much of Unilever's strength lies in the shared values of our people. Integrity Respect Responsibility Pioneering."2
Bring stories that demonstrate acting with integrity under pressure, respecting colleagues and partners across cultures, taking responsibility for outcomes (including failures), and pioneering a new approach where the existing one isn't working.

Before your Unilever HireVue interview
On the physical side of the HireVue interview, even though you are going to do the interview at home without a live interviewer talking to you - make sure you dress as you would for a regular face-to-face interview.
Place some lights behind your camera to make sure your face is well lit and raise the camera so that it is at your eye level.
Also, think about investing in a microphone to sound crisp and clear - even a cheap one will sound better than your onboard microphone
On Voomer, when you practice on past and current Unilever HireVue questions, AI algorithms will give you feedback on your physical and technical setup to ensure you are ahead of the competition before you answer your first question.

Face the CameraWhat candidates ask us
- What Unilever HireVue questions should I expect?
- Unilever typically asks behavioral and situational questions. Think ‘Tell me about a time...’ and ‘How would you handle...’ The specific questions rotate, but the format stays the same: you’ll see the question, get prep time, then record your answer on camera. Voomer’s Unilever question bank has the real questions candidates have reported.
- How long is the Unilever HireVue interview?
- Most HireVue interviews run 4–6 questions, 2–3 minutes per answer. The whole thing takes about 20–30 minutes. You’ll usually get 30 seconds to read each question before recording starts.
- Can I practice Unilever HireVue questions before the real thing?
- That’s exactly what Voomer is for. Record yourself answering real Unilever questions in the same timed, on-camera format, then see your debrief: how fast you spoke, where your eyes went, whether filler words crept in, and how you compare to other Unilever candidates.
- How does Unilever’s HireVue evaluate my answers?
- HireVue uses AI to assess your responses, but what exactly it measures isn’t fully transparent. What we know: delivery matters as much as content. Eye contact, speaking pace, confidence, and structure all factor in. Voomer shows you these same signals so you know exactly how you’re coming across.
- What’s the best way to prepare for a Unilever HireVue?
- Practice on camera. Reading about interview tips helps, but nothing replaces actually recording yourself and watching it back. Most candidates who use Voomer see their biggest improvement between sessions 3 and 5. That’s when the self-consciousness fades and real presence kicks in.
